Trim Levels (Exterior)
Contrary to popular belief, the 2023 Bronco Sport is not a trim level of the truck-based Bronco. It's a crossover SUV offered in four trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, and Badlands. The model shares some styling cues with the larger, more off-road-oriented Bronco, but has its own unique size and design. Standard features on the Base trim include automatic LED headlights, a rear liftgate with lighting and a flip-up rear window, roof rails, and a set of 17-inch wheels. With the Big Bend trim, upgrades include heated mirrors and tinted windows, while LED fog lights are available as an option. The Outer Banks trim is more comfortable than capable, featuring larger 18-inch wheels, heated and rain-sensing windshield wipers, and remote engine start. You can add a Black Diamond Off-Road package to either the Big Bend or Outer Banks trim to get unique graphics, underbody skid plates, and glossy gray alloy wheels. The Badlands has skid plates, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and an off-road-optimized suspension.
Engine (Power)
A 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine comes standard with the lower three trim levels. It produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, pairing with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Badlands trim has its own 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit rated at 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel-drive comes standard across the board.
Performance
If you opt for the more powerful engine, your SUV will include paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel and enhanced cooling components. But both engines are responsive and peppy, delivering an impressive driving experience. The firm ride is ideal for off-roading, while the weighted steering helps you maintain better control. If you plan to tow with your Bronco Sport, you'll want the optional Class II Trailer Tow package. It includes trailer-sway control and the equipment needed to attach a trailer. The maximum towing capacity comes in at 2,200 pounds.
Interior
Ford designers considered the wants and needs of their target audience when creating a functional cabin for the 2023 Bronco Sport. It's quite spacious, making it easy to climb in and out. Standard comfort features include cloth upholstery and manual climate control, along with a six-speaker audio system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, and an 8-inch touchscreen. You can also get upgrades like vinyl flooring, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and leather upholstery. A premium 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system is an option on the Outer Banks trim, bundled with wireless charging and HD radio.
Safety Features
All Bronco Sport models include Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of active driver aids. It bundles automatic high beams, a rearview camera, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning. Every trim level also comes with anti-lock brakes, airbags throughout the cabin, stability and traction control, and tire pressure monitoring. The upper trims add rear parking sensors, while the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package is offered on all models except the Base. It comes with navigation, evasive steering assist, adaptive cruise control with speed limit recognition, and lane-keeping assist.
