The New 2023 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape was updated for 2023 and now has new trim levels, several upgraded driver-assistance features, some exterior enhancements, and an optional infotainment center. However, many features are similar to previous years' models, with a comparable interior and exterior design and the same engine choices. The biggest change to the 2023 compact crossover is the addition of the ST-Line, a new trim level that boasts several interior updates, as well as a few exterior modifications.

Trim Levels (Exterior)

The Ford Escape features a new front end for 2023 that includes standard LED headlights and a wider grille with the Ford logo in the center. It offers eight trim levels: Base, Active, ST-Line, St-Line Select, St-Line Elite, Platinum, and Plug-in Hybrid. The Base and Active trims come standard with seventeen-inch steel wheels with silver-painted covers, LED signature lighting, and dual chrome exhaust tips. The Active trims and above have a variety of available upgrades, such as heated glass mirrors and black roof-rack side rails.

Engine (Power)

The Escape offers a range of powertrains, starting with the Base model's 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 180 horsepower. The ST-Line models offer the more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 250 horsepower. With this option, you'll also get all-wheel drive. In addition, the Escape offers two hybrid engines, one of which is a plug-in. The plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor.

Performance

The Ford Escape is a highly capable SUV that provides a smooth, comfortable ride. Its two gasoline engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission while the hybrids utilize a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Torque vectoring, which helps improve traction by varying the torque that's applied to individual wheels, and curve control, which can detect when the vehicle is traveling too fast in a curve and slow the vehicle automatically, is standard in all trims and contributes to a safe, smooth ride.

Interior

The Escape's interior is comfortable and spacious with the second-row offering 60/40 split-fold versatility, allowing you to configure the backseat to meet your passenger and cargo needs. In addition, the second row is adjustable, providing passengers with the option of an additional 5.9 inches of legroom. A convenient wireless charging pad in the center console is available, and an 8-inch center stack infotainment center and SYNC 4, Ford's infotainment technology system, come standard in all trims. The ST-Line and below trims have textured cloth seat upholstery while the Platinum trim has standard faux-leather seat coverings. The cargo hold behind the second row provides 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

Safety Features

Ford's CoPilot 360 is standard in the 2023 Escape and includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor. New for the 2023 models is optional rear cross-traffic detection with emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera are also optional. All models come equipped with the SOS Post-Crash Alert System, a personal safety system that includes dual-stage driver and front-passenger airbags, and a passive anti-theft system.
