2023 Ford Expedition
The Expedition, Ford's largest SUV, features a stylish and functional design. After undergoing some relatively minor upgrades in 2022, the 2023 model features just a few notable tweaks. All models boast a cavernous interior with plenty of legroom and cargo space, and a large selection of optional safety and convenience features is available for all trim levels.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
Featuring large LED headlights and a broad grille that comes in several finishes, the Expedition offers ten trim levels: XL, STX, XLT, XLT Max, Timberline, Limited, Limited Max, King Ranch, King Ranch Max, Platinum, and Platinum Max. The base model of the Expedition measures 210 inches. For those needing more room, the long-wheelbase Max models measure a foot longer, 224 inches, with the additional length being primarily dedicated to additional cargo space in the rear.
Engine (Power)
The Ford Expedition provides quick acceleration thanks to its powerful V-6 engine. The standard 3.5 liter V-6 EcoBoost engine delivers 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. For more power, combine the Timberline trim and Stealth package to boost the Expedition's output to 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The Expedition's engines are paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission, and automatic stop-start technology comes standard. All trim levels are available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive.
Performance
The Expedition's independent front and rear suspensions deliver impressive handling, cornering, and stability to create a smooth, comfortable ride. Upgrade to the Stealth Performance Edition for even greater performance thanks to its 3.5-liter EcoBoost High-Output engine, dual-exhaust system, and sport-tuned suspension. Adaptive dampers on some of the higher trims adjust suspension stiffness quickly, helping to create an even smoother ride. Depending on the trim level, the Expedition's towing capacity approaches 10,000 pounds.
Interior
The Ford Expedition's base XL seats five people while the higher trim levels, starting with the XLT, seat eight. In addition, the XLT and above trims offer three-zone climate control and a power-folding third row. The second row provides 41 inches of legroom on all models, while the third row is a bit more narrow but is still easily accessible.
A 12-inch standard display screen provides easy viewing but an optional, vertically mounted 15.5-inch display is also available. While most base trims offer cloth upholstery, some XLT models come with sturdy, synthetic leather seat covers. The Limited and above trims offer various grades of higher-quality leather seat coverings. As far as cargo space goes, this full-sized SUV boasts plenty of it, with the standard models offering a maximum of 104.6 cubic feet and the Max models providing up to 121.5 cubic feet.
Safety Features
The 2023 Ford Expedition earned five stars from the NHTSA, a point above average, thanks to its high-tech suite of crash-avoidance technology features. All models come standard with active lane control, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitors, while parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and adaptive cruise control are optional. Ford's Blue Cruise technology, a hands-free, driver-assist system designed for use on 130,000 miles of select highways is available on the Platinum trim level.
